How long have you worked at Common Wood

3 months

What's your favourite type of timber to work with — and why?

Probably Spotted Gum. It’s density makes it feel so substantial and the grain patterns make for a really interesting finished product.

What is your favourite part of woodworking?

I love the precision and care that it takes to make a beautiful product that you can be proud of.

Which project are you most proud of so far?

I think the Theatre Royal’s boardroom table looks fantastic. The story behind it is great. Reusing the old stage floor for their new office space is such a great idea.

What’s the biggest stuff-up you’ve made on a job, and what did you learn from it?

There’s been plenty. Hard to pick out a single stuff up. Learning to really take your time and really think about what you are doing to make sure something is correct has been a great learning experience.

What’s your favourite tool in the workshop?

Without a doubt the panel saw. Honourable mention goes to the 90 degree clamps. They’re a great extra set of hands when you need them.

If you could build anything, with no budget or time limits, what would it be?

Fully furnishing a house with timber products including a timber bath.

Favourite sporting team?

Swans in winter - New York Knicks in summer.

What Music or Podcast do you listen to while you’re working?

Recently its been the full discography of The Fall.

What advice would you give someone just starting out in woodworking?

I’m in no position to be dishing out woodworking advice but I would say you have to start somewhere so why not now?

What do you enjoy most about being part of Common Wood?

Working with an absolute legendary team of guys that really care about their work and the products they make.
